The Great Yorkshire Show

Tuesday 9th - Friday 12th July 2024 Harrogate Showground, North Yorkshire I'm thrilled to be exhibiting once again at the 165th Great Yorkshire Show. This will be my third year at the show, and you will find me at stand number 624 in the home and gift hall. I will have with me a range of original artwork, prints, coasters, bags and notebooks. Please note that you cannot buy tickets on the gate...

You are so talented, the detail is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your work.

Vicki, I absolutely feel like crying. It’s amazing, so perfectly connected to the Hope wall. I can’t stop looking at it! Really beautiful. It makes me believe we can get rainbow paint!

Our little hare friend arrived safely and appears quite happy with his new home! And we, his new caretakers, couldn’t be more thrilled with him and delighted with your brilliant work!! He’s even more gorgeous than in the pictures. I am over the moon.

My father-in-law isn’t often moved to shed a few tears but your portrait certainly did just that. As birthday presents go I think you nailed it for him!

Just awesome Vicki. The movement you create and use of colour are stunning.

A short review because that’s all that is required.

You only have to look through Vicki’s body of work to see the consistency of her talent. Each piece is easily identifiable as hers. There’s little wonder her work is in such demand, and having two of her pieces I certainly have turned into a collector.

About Vicki

Vicki Davidson is an artist with a passion for bright, dynamic and inspirational art. Always keen to experiment, Vicki works in oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal…and anything she can get her hands on to make a mark really! Subjects include sketches, portraits, animals (especially hares!) and, more recently, landscapes.

Although Vicki studied art and design at ‘A’ Level, a busy career in nursing has left little time for her passion. Vicki’s nursing career has taken her around the world, including London, Australia, an African expedition and even some time in a Field Hospital during her time as a reservist with the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps. Now her two children are growing up, and needing her less, Vicki has decided to pursue her passion for art.

In 2017 Vicki started sharing her work on social media and in a few select local galleries. The artwork has rapidly generated a keen interest, resulting in commissions and requests for prints of the work. Vicki still works as a nurse for the NHS, currently at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. Vicki, originally from Dartmoor in Devon, lives on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with her husband and two children.

Working away in the background on my year-long landscape course with @newlynartschool

This exercise, introduced by art tutor @jon_doran , involves making small colour studies in oil. Only the big shapes are put in, avoiding fussy details.
I used the same cool limited palette for all these studies (ultramarine blue, viridian, burnt sienna, and white).

I am really enjoying this course, especially because it involves such varied materials and techniques. I’m learning loads! 🙌

I’m looking forward to delivering a workshop next weekend with a local art group.

We’re going to be exploring ‘watercolour birds’.

Watercolours can be such fun to work with, although difficult and frustrating at times too!
Their charm is in the ‘expecting the unexpected’ - but some ‘unexpecteds’ are good- some not so much 🙃

Anyway, i’m pleased with how this fella turned out.

I’m really looking forward to creating more beautiful landscapes as I progress through my landscape course with @newlynartschool
So far I have mainly sketches and drawings, but I think it will be a significant body of work by the end of the course!

Loose pastel portrait ⚡️

Pastels are such a versatile medium- I tend to use @unisoncolour

They can be a bit messy & dusty, but that never puts me off 😁

The richness of colour and vibrancy is superb with pastels as they pure pigment 🎨

Anyone else a pastel fan? 🙌

This picture is sold.

My latest painting, acrylic on canvas 90cm x 90cm

The foliage and florals ended up a bit stylised which is not my usual approach. However, it’s always fun to try something different .

I don’t have a title yet- any ideas welcome!

Thank you to @francescrickmorephoto for a lovely reference 📸

What is Giclée printing?

Giclée is a French word (pronounced Zhee-Clay) which literally means “fine spray”. Giclée fine art prints are produced digitally on high quality inkjet printers, which have the capability to reproduce a much wider range of colours than conventional processes, due to the specially formulated inks and media used. The Giclée process is really the only current solution available to artists who wish to obtain a close match to their original work and have the peace of mind that the prints will remain vibrant and fade resistant for decades to come.

All of the printing at Vicki Davidson is carried out by Nidd Imaging. Their quality of prints is exceptional!

Each print is approved by Vicki to ensure the colour match is as exact as possible to the original.

You can see more about Nidd Imaging and their printing process via; http://www.niddimaging.co.uk/
