THE ARTIST
About Vicki
Vicki Davidson is an artist with a passion for bright, dynamic and inspirational art. Always keen to experiment, Vicki works in oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal…and anything she can get her hands on to make a mark really! Subjects include sketches, portraits, animals (especially hares!) and, more recently, landscapes.
Although Vicki studied art and design at ‘A’ Level, a busy career in nursing has left little time for her passion. Vicki’s nursing career has taken her around the world, including London, Australia, an African expedition and even some time in a Field Hospital during her time as a reservist with the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps. Now her two children are growing up, and needing her less, Vicki has decided to pursue her passion for art.
In 2017 Vicki started sharing her work on social media and in a few select local galleries. The artwork has rapidly generated a keen interest, resulting in commissions and requests for prints of the work. Vicki has twice been a finalist in The British Art Prize, in 2023 and 2024.
Vicki, originally from Dartmoor in Devon, lives on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with her husband and two children.
I’ve had a fantastic day delivering a charcoal workshop to Sheriff Hutton Art Group.
What a wonderful , warm, and welcoming group this is.
We spent the morning exploring charcoal, which some participants had not tried before. We talked about the different types of charcoal and the basic equipment needed to get started.
We then did some warm-up exercises concentrating on mark making and using the charcoal in different ways.
After exploring ‘form’ by drawing spheres (golf balls!) the group worked on their own drawings, each selecting a reference picture that inspired them.
I’m sure you’ll agree, the results were fabulous! 🙌
Thanks for welcoming me back again Sheriff Hutton Art Group ☺️

I’ve recently added to the art collection at @redmirevillagepub with these two stags. Both framed prints in white wood by @yorkshireframingservice
This is ‘Caught in the Headlights’ from an original acrylic painting and ‘Autumn Stag’ from an original pastel artwork.
What do you think, should we add more stags to the @vickidavidsonart art portfolio next year?

✨ Another original artwork added to my online gallery shop today ✨
This delicately rendered watercolour is one of my favourites. I love when watercolour becomes all about ‘less is more’ and there’s a wonderful mix of soft blends and harder edges. The colours are divine ☺️
I literally see something different every time I look at this painting.
I’ve had this one bespoke framed by @yorkshireframingservice so he’s ready to hang on your wall. ☺️

I’m pretty thrilled with this newly framed original - thank you to the brilliant @yorkshireframingservice 🤗
I will be adding this original artwork to my website shop this weekend.
We have carefully chosen a bevelled black wood frame with a gold slip that truly makes Mr Fluffy Fox 🦊 pop!
Art glass ensures there is minimal reflection, so all you see is the detail in the artwork.
This original pastel painting, created with @unisoncolour pastels, measures 48cm x 49cm.
Frame measures 66cm x 67 cm

A little watercolour process 💦 🖌️
Painted as part of a recent art club demo, but finished later in the studio as watercolour can be a bit slow building up the layers!
So satisfying to see this beautiful strong character emerge from the delicate washes of colour.
Thanks to @suecrosswildlife for the 📸 reference

For @doncaster_art_club
I managed to finish my hare demo for you today.
I continued to do just the same as we did during the demo- building layers, focusing on ‘shapes’ and finishing with finer details.
It was definitely easier working flat with the watercolours than upright on the easel 😁
Due to several unwanted marks on my nice clean white background, it was necessary to apply a liberal sprinkling of ‘splatter’! 💦 🖌️ 🎨
I’ve included a couple of time lapse videos to help you see how the painting progressed after I left you.
I hope you have fun creating your own animal artworks by applying some of these techniques, and I can’t wait to see the results!
With thanks to the fabulous @suecrosswildlife for the wonderful reference photograph 🙏

I have just been signing some of these prints and - even though I do say so myself ☺️- I think they look rather splendid!
The beautiful hues are perfectly captured from the original painting, and there is such depth to the colour.
Thank you @niddimaging
Prints are available online- you may even grab a bargain in the small size as they are currently reduced, but stock is limited.

What is Giclée printing?
Giclée is a French word (pronounced Zhee-Clay) which literally means “fine spray”. Giclée fine art prints are produced digitally on high quality inkjet printers, which have the capability to reproduce a much wider range of colours than conventional processes, due to the specially formulated inks and media used. The Giclée process is really the only current solution available to artists who wish to obtain a close match to their original work and have the peace of mind that the prints will remain vibrant and fade resistant for decades to come.
All of the printing at Vicki Davidson is carried out by Nidd Imaging. Their quality of prints is exceptional!
Each print is approved by Vicki to ensure the colour match is as exact as possible to the original.
You can see more about Nidd Imaging and their printing process via; http://www.niddimaging.co.uk/
